Preamble
SoundNode Radio is an Internet radio directory and player application. The app offers an editorially curated directory of publicly available Internet radio stations and allows users to listen to live radio broadcasts on their mobile devices. The service is funded by advertising revenue.
Soundnode Radio does not host, store, transcode, or distribute any audio content. All audio streams are transmitted directly from the respective radio stations’ servers to the user’s device.
§ 1 Scope of Services and Technical Requirements
The service requires a working Internet connection and a compatible mobile device or a current browser. The provider may change or discontinue features and design at any time without this giving rise to any claims by users.
SoundNode Radio provides only a directory and a player for Internet radio streams. The app has no influence on the availability, quality, or content of the listed stations.
§ 2 Scope and Restrictions of Use
(1) Permitted Use: Use of SoundNode Radio is permitted exclusively for private, non-commercial purposes—in particular, finding and playing audio sources via the website and the apps.
(2) Prohibited Activities: The reproduction, distribution, public dissemination, or commercial use of content from the platform without prior written permission is prohibited.
(3) Automated Access: It is prohibited to retrieve, read, copy, or save the platform’s content and data—in particular the station directory, stream addresses, logos, descriptions, categories, and collections—using automated means (e.g., bots, crawlers, scrapers, or scripts) or to circumvent the platform’s technical protection or restriction measures. This does not apply to search engines that index pages for their public search results and comply with the specifications in the robots.txt file.
(4) Database: The station directory is a database within the meaning of Sections 87a et seq. of the German Copyright Act (UrhG). Its structure, the editorial review of the stations, the ongoing maintenance of the stream addresses, the categorization by genre, country, and collections, as well as the descriptions, require a significant investment on the part of the provider. It is prohibited to extract or reuse the database in its entirety or in substantial parts, as well as to repeatedly and systematically extract or reuse insubstantial parts, to the extent that this runs counter to the normal exploitation of the database or unreasonably impairs the provider’s legitimate interests (Section 87b of the German Copyright Act (UrhG)).
(5) Access Restrictions: To protect the service, the provider may limit the number of accesses and block accesses that violate these terms and conditions.
(6) Licenses: Anyone wishing to use data from the directory for their own purposes may request a license from the provider (see below for contact information).
(7) Rights: All rights to the platform, the software, and the database remain with the provider or the respective rights holders. The provider reserves the right to take legal action in the event of violations.
§ 3 Content and Station Directory
Source of the content
The radio stations listed in the SoundNode directory broadcast their own licensed content. Each station is responsible for obtaining and maintaining the necessary broadcasting rights and license agreements under its respective jurisdiction (e.g., GEMA/GVL in Germany, ASCAP/BMI in the U.S., PRS in the U.K.).
SoundNode Radio has no influence over the content broadcast by individual radio stations and assumes no responsibility for it.
Listing Criteria for Stations
To be included in the SoundNode directory, a radio station must:
- operate a legitimate, publicly accessible Internet radio stream,
- hold the necessary broadcasting rights under its legal system,
- Provide a freely available stream URL (no circumvention of paywalls, geo-blocks, or access restrictions),
- pass the editorial review by the SoundNode team.
User suggestions for stations
Users can suggest new radio stations for inclusion in the directory. All suggestions are subject to:
- a manual review and approval by the SoundNode moderation team,
- a review of the stream's legitimacy and public accessibility,
- compliance with the above-mentioned inclusion criteria.
Stations suggested by users are published only after approval by an administrator.
§ 4 Own Streams
Users can add their own stream URLs for personal use within the app. My Streams:
- are stored on the device and, if the user is logged in, in their user account so that they are available on their other devices,
- are not shared with other users or included in the public directory,
- are the sole responsibility of the user who added them.
SoundNode Radio assumes no responsibility for content accessed via user-owned streams.
§ 5 Recording Function
SoundNode Radio includes a stream recording feature that is intended solely for personal, private use. Before using the recording feature for the first time, the user must read and accept a copyright notice that:
- Recordings are limited to personal, private use,
- prohibits the commercial use, redistribution, or public performance of recordings,
- informs users of their legal obligations under applicable copyright law.
Users who do not accept the notice cannot use the recording feature.
§ 6 Intellectual Property and Complaints
SoundNode Radio respects the intellectual property rights of all parties involved. If you are a rights holder and believe that a station listed in our directory is infringing on your rights, please contact:

Upon receipt of a substantiated complaint, we will immediately investigate the matter and, if necessary, remove the station in question from the directory.
§ 7 Privacy Policy
Information regarding data processing can be found in the separate privacy policy.
§ 8 Liability
The provider is not liable for the content of the linked audio sources or the radio stations operated by third parties. SoundNode Radio is provided “as is.” The provider does not guarantee the availability, quality, or legality of the content broadcast by third parties. Users access radio streams at their own discretion and are personally responsible for complying with the laws applicable in their jurisdiction.
The provider’s liability is excluded to the extent permitted by law. Exceptions to this are:
- Damages resulting from injury to life, body, or health,
- a breach of material contractual obligations (cardinal obligations),
- Intent or gross negligence.
In cases of simple negligence, liability is limited to typical, foreseeable damages.
§ 9 Final Provisions
- These Terms of Use are available at any time at soundnode.de/content-policy.
- German law applies.
- The provider does not participate in consumer arbitration proceedings.
- Should any individual provisions of these Terms of Use be or become invalid, the validity of the remaining provisions shall remain unaffected.
