On episode 517, a headless squirrel appeared at your door. Now you have news about the neighbor who put it there. Welcome to another Feedback Friday!
And in case you didn't already know it, Jordan Harbinger (@JordanHarbinger) and Gabriel Mizrahi (@GabeMizrahi) banter and take your comments and questions for Feedback Friday right here every week! On This Week's Feedback Friday:
- Back in episode 517, you told us about the neighbor who wormed his way into the lives of the two girls in your care, then spent years harassing you — right down to a headless squirrel at your back door. Five years and countless reports later, you're back with news about the man next door. What's changed?
- You and your estranged wife have been "working on things" for years — through her affairs, a move-out, and a baby with another man. Now she says she isn't ready to commit, yet you still hope she'll choose you. Is it love that keeps you coming back, or are you clinging to the family you'd hoped to have?
- At 45, after nine years in the same niche role, you've built a respected network — executives, board members, and peers you can call to talk shop. Yet a year of job hunting, even with a career coach holding you to Jordan's own course, has gone nowhere. Is the networking advice flawed, or is something missing?
- Recommendation of the Week: Sleep Apnea Screening — Jordan's nudge for snorers and the chronically groggy to get tested, since this slow-acting condition goes undiagnosed in a surprising number of people, and it isn't just a weight issue. Could a simple at-home test finally explain why you wake up tired?
- You started listening to Feedback Friday for the drama and stayed as the show's approach to problem-solving began showing up in your own life. Now you're curious how years of guests and letters have shaped Jordan and Gabe themselves — on marriage, psychopathy, and more. What have they learned the most about?

1401: Tom Rath | Turning Purpose Into Your Daily Superpower

Facing a shortened life, Tom Rath raced to check every box — then hit 40 and asked: "What's the point?" Here's how to make your hours matter.
Full show notes and resources can be found here: jordanharbinger.com/1401
What We Discuss with Tom Rath:
- How a diagnosis at 15 — and an average lifespan of about 37 for people with his condition — sent Tom Rath racing to check every box, only to reach 40 and realize the boxes weren't his. Sometimes achievement is just existential panic wearing a suit.
- Why career choice is less free will than inheritance: most of us glimpse five to 10 percent of the jobs out there, and a kid whose dad hangs drywall is 136 times likelier to follow suit. Tom half-jokes that random job assignment might beat our hit rate.
- Why "follow your passion" is cotton candy advice — and "Let them eat cake" for anyone living paycheck to paycheck. Passion asks what you want; purpose asks who you help, and it's built daily, one rescued frazzled customer at a time, not found once a decade.
- How spending 80 percent of the day reacting to email, feeds, and stock tickers feels productive but builds nothing durable — and why anyone who merely processes tasks may be one AI point release away from automation.
- How asking "What's the point?" of every hour can reclaim your calendar. Guard at least 60 meaningful minutes a day, work in focused initiating blocks, and push email to later. No headstone brags about quarterly revenue, so spend today on what gets carved there.
- And much more...

Dr. Leslie John explains why oversharing is underrated, how opening up builds trust faster than waiting for it, and where candor tips into TMI.
Full show notes and resources can be found here: jordanharbinger.com/1400
What We Discuss with Dr. Leslie John:
- Why waiting to feel trusted before opening up gets things backward — a slightly edgy reveal is a social risk that signals trust, and trust begets trust (a lever CIA recruiters and con artists both know how to pull).
- How two people in love lost 20 years to the fear of saying the wrong thing, and why we tally the risks of revealing but rarely the cost of silence (the first “I love you” is returned about 80% of the time).
- What Miss USA’s ravenous pageant answer, an onstage bladder mishap, and a sassy Harvard job interview reveal about the sweet spot between TMI and its overlooked twin, TLI (too little information), and the respect hiding behind the cringe.
- How to tell genuine, gradually escalating intimacy from love bombing and catfishing, why you need a full competence bank account before making vulnerability withdrawals at work, and why transparency is the safer bet.
- How to build the revealing muscle with sincere, specific compliments (and less gossip), and why the cure for a disclosure hangover is usually to lean back in and check with the person — not retreat into a catastrophic replay.

Innocent until proven broke? On Skeptical Sunday, Jessica Wynn explains how cash bail jails half a million unconvicted Americans.
Welcome to Skeptical Sunday, a special edition of The Jordan Harbinger Show where Jordan and a guest break down a topic that you may have never thought about, open things up, and debunk common misconceptions. This time around, we’re joined by writer and researcher Jessica Wynn!
Full show notes and resources can be found here: jordanharbinger.com/1399
On This Week's Skeptical Sunday, We Discuss:
- How roughly 500,000 legally innocent Americans sit in jail awaiting trial on any given day — not because they're dangerous, but because cash bail sorts people by bank balance rather than by risk, and only the US and the Philippines rent out freedom via commercial bail bonds.
- Why bail reform became political kryptonite: crime rose during COVID just as reforms rolled out, so Utah (after five months!) and Alaska scrapped theirs before the data arrived, while a $2-billion-a-year bail bond industry lobbied hard to keep freedom behind a paywall.
- What happens when reform survives on paper but not in practice: judges swap unaffordable bail for no-bail holds, ankle monitors widen the net, and risk algorithms trained on biased data launder old prejudices into objective-looking scores.
- How pretrial detention powers the plea bargain machine — with about 95 percent of cases ending in pleas, people held before trial are four times likelier to be sentenced to jail and get sentences three times longer, even controlling for charges and history.
- What actually works: Washington, D.C. has run without cash bail since 1992, releasing about 90 percent of arrestees (88 percent show up for court), while simple text reminders cut missed court dates 26 percent in NYC — proof that a nudge often beats a threat.

On This Week's Feedback Friday:
- Months after ending a pregnancy just hours before a test confirmed your son was healthy, you're back with more of the story (from episode 1287) — the sleepless night that preceded it, a church group that quietly ghosted you, IVF on the horizon, and anger at yourself that won't let up. Where does healing even begin?
- Six months into dating a man 15 years your senior — everything you've ever asked for in a partner — you're happy, yet around his wildly accomplished friends, you can't shake the sense you've wandered into the wrong league. Should you study up on his world, or is the pedestal itself the problem?
- You ended a four-year friendship after learning he'd hidden his dating life and secretly loved you all along — convinced you were somehow "in on it." Now you want close male friends without the guesswork. How do you draw that line without sounding conceited, or presuming every guy is smitten?
- Recommendation of the Week: Resistance Bands — Jordan's road-warrior answer to living without dumbbells: featherweight elastic loops that turn a hotel-room mat routine into shoulder presses, squats, and crunches with real bite. Could a $10 set be the gym that fits in your carry-on?
- A few weeks back (on episode , you heard Jordan and Gabe counsel a man who believes he's a pedophile but has never acted on it — and you, like a vocal handful on the subreddit, felt they got it fundamentally wrong. Why give him airtime at all? Was that segment platforming, or prevention, and who has the stronger case?

Former FBI hostage negotiator Kyle Vowinkel explains how to think clearly under fire, check your ego, and make hard calls before the heat of the moment.
Full show notes and resources can be found here: jordanharbinger.com/1397
What We Discuss with Kyle Vowinkel:
- Words prevail where weapons fail. After gunfire and 12 flashbangs, Kyle reached the Boston bomber through preparation. An hour with the bomber's wrestling coach gave him a nickname and a shared bond, and "I know who you are, Jahar" and "finish the match" got him out of the boat.
- Under stress, emotion, and rationality sit on a teeter-totter — when one rises, the other falls. One trainee negotiator kept confirming a pizza order while his mock hijacker shot hostages. Tunnel vision is real, and even a five-second tactical pause to breathe and reset restores judgment.
- Ego is the enemy of the team. Kyle was passed over at his first HRT tryout for questioning an instructor and betting a paycheck on a shooting rematch. Good leaders speak last, push credit down, and act as an umbrella — closed when praise shines, open when blame pours down.
- Rapport is fragile and inputs must be verified. In the Alabama bunker, five days of trust vanished when the captor spotted a rifle barrel, a misheard medication request cost a day, and unchecked cables stalled the assault. Triggers set in advance are what finally saved Ethan.
- The takeaways: make hard decisions before the heat of the moment, while rationality is high. Set clear triggers in advance, take a timeout when tempers flare, and anchor confidence in real past wins: "I've done this before. I can do this." No wins yet? Start small and build up.

AI can copy dance music's sound but not its soul. Grammy-nominated DJ Kaskade is here to share 30 years of lessons on art, failure, and savoring success.
Full show notes and resources can be found here: jordanharbinger.com/1396
What We Discuss with Kaskade:
- AI isn't black and white for Kaskade — he's made music with machines for 30 years and welcomes help with mundane tasks, but push-button songs miss the point. What angers him is models clearly trained on his catalog while artists like him never see a check in the mail.
- When a generator caught fire before 40,000 fans at the L.A. Coliseum, Kaskade sat down with a Diet Coke while Deadmau5 raged at the crew — then held up his phone's flashlight. After months of prep and millions spent, the most memorable moment was the one nobody planned.
- Honest art means accepting it won't connect with everyone. undux, his introspective record after the fire, and a Christmas album cost him fans, but creating just to please the crowd never works. undux had to happen so Origin //, his return to big, celebratory anthems, could happen.
- A sober Latter-day Saint who teaches early-morning seminary, Kaskade found dance music as an escape from high school keggers. The rave scene welcomed this misfit, and he gets his high from the music and the community — proof there's room for everyone on the dance floor.
- What can you take away from this episode? Check in honestly about whether your work is working, and be willing to pivot to a neighboring role you still love; Kaskade's career grew from seizing each new opening. And when you win, savor it before asking what's next. You can keep improving and still enjoy the night.

Full show notes and resources can be found here: jordanharbinger.com/1395
On This Week's Skeptical Sunday:
- How The Telepathy Tapes, a chart-topping podcast claiming nonspeaking autistic kids can read minds, sells extraordinary claims to parents who desperately want them to be true — and why claims that big demand far more than anecdotes and tests no one can see.
- Why 140 years of telepathy research — from the Creery sisters and Smith and Blackburn to J. B. Rhine's ESP cards — keeps producing impressive results that vanish the moment experimenters tighten controls or put the subjects in separate rooms.
- What James Randi's planted magicians revealed about psychic research: scientists can sincerely believe they've ruled out deception while leaving loopholes wide open, because they're trained to study nature, not to catch someone fooling them.
- How Spelling to Communicate and Rapid Prompting echo discredited Facilitated Communication, where controlled tests showed facilitators authoring the messages — a flaw that led to false abuse accusations that tore families apart.
- Why the strongest defense against self-deception is noticing how badly you want something to be true. When news sounds too good, tell yourself, "I hope it's true" — then account for that feeling and check the evidence before you believe it.

- If you want to close your eyes and drift across Gabe's silent meditation retreat post-game wrap-up, you can jump to timestamp 28 minutes and 40 seconds!
- You spent four years as a stay-at-home dad to three girls, only to learn your wife's "work trips" were cover for a years-long affair with your fantasy football buddy and family friend. Now she says she doesn't want a divorce. Do you go scorched earth, or quietly stay put for the kids' sake?
- Your sister-in-law's home was raided by the FBI, local police, and CPS after her husband's old crypto account was allegedly linked to purchases of child sexual abuse material. Now your niece is living with her grandmother, and the details keep getting murkier. How do you help, and is this the whole story?
- Recommendation of the Week: TurboScribe — Jordan's go-to for turning audio, video, or even a YouTube link into an accurate transcript, free for up to three 30-minute files a day, and they promise never to train AI on your words. Ready to give your typing fingers the day off?
- Your 92-year-old mom, a devoted show fan, decided to stop fighting her illness — then, after two nights of falling asleep to the show, rallied with new plans and projects. Now you're juggling joy, worry, and anticipatory grief. How do you support her, and yourself, through the unknown?

Jet lag isn't just about time zones. FlyKitt founder Andrew Herr is here to explain what flying really does to your body — and how to fight back.
Full show notes and resources can be found here: jordanharbinger.com/1393
What We Discuss with Andrew Herr:
- Flying wrecks you because of flight inflammation — cabins pressurized to about 8,000 feet mean 26% less air per breath, and rapid pressure changes trigger an immune response akin to mild altitude and decompression sickness. Brain fog, swollen feet, and even midair anxiety follow.
- Cabin air is a mixed bag — HEPA filters catch most germs unless you're within two rows of a sick passenger, but engine startup exhaust, oil fume events, and sprayed insecticides slip through. When possible, fly a 787 (no bleed air) or an A350, both pressurized to about 6,000 feet.
- Jet lag isn't just about time zones — inflammation disrupts sleep and blocks your circadian rhythm from shifting, which is why a long flight with a small time change still hurts. Melatonin alone won't fix it; light, meal timing, sleep timing, and supplements must work together.
- So-called immune boosters like zinc and vitamin C rarely help unless you're deficient — most people need a calmer immune system, not a boosted one. Omega-3s and polyphenols help; salty airline food and alcohol hurt. Abroad, spice and garlic won't kill bacteria, but cooking and salt help.
- Plan for how you want to feel when you arrive. Work out or sauna a few hours before flying, skip salty meals and alcohol, and drink plenty of water. At the hotel, request fragrance-free cleaning, set the room near 67 degrees, and clip curtain gaps shut with skirt hangers.

Extremist groups turn grievance into identity. Ex-neo-Nazi leader Jeff Schoep reveals how they recruit, why members stay, and what finally sets them free.
Full show notes and resources can be found here: jordanharbinger.com/1392
What We Discuss with Jeff Schoep:
- Jeff wasn't recruited into neo-Nazism — he sought it out, reading Mein Kampf and Holocaust revisionism at 16. Doxxed on live radio at 19, he quit his rock band, shaved his head, and went all in. By 21, he was national leader of the National Socialist Movement.
- Hate is built on fear, and recruitment exploits a single grievance — crime, the border, a struggling paycheck. Get someone in the door on that one issue, Jeff explains, then pile on propaganda until a cult-like echo chamber does the rest and everyone outside it becomes the enemy.
- Extremist movements feed on persecution. Lost jobs, evictions, and street clashes became proof the cause was right, and a mass shooter was dismissed as crazy rather than radicalized. Meanwhile, the damage rippled outward — Jeff's notoriety even cost his mother a judgeship.
- No single moment changed him. Daryl Davis calmly refusing the bait, Deeyah Khan's story of childhood racism, a Jewish woman offering shelter, Black strangers fixing his car at midnight in Detroit — each was a crack in a worldview that took three years to fall apart.
- When someone voices an extreme view, don't yell back or roll your eyes. Lead with curiosity, ask genuine questions, and share your own story. Scolding and shaming push people deeper; seeing the human being across the table is what opens the door out.
- And much more...

On This Week's Feedback Friday:
- You're an analytics engineer who's raised your 12-year-old daughter on Darknet Diaries and security books — and she just used a broken keyboard, your SIM card, and a shoulder-surfed PIN to seize your Google accounts, then confessed. How do you nurture her gift while teaching her where the line is?
- You married a calm, quirky woman you adored, but since the engagement she's traded cycling for lying in bed, gaining weight, and waving off your concerns with talk of DNA. Now your attraction is fading and her immigration paperwork is pending. Is this really about weight, or something much deeper?
- You grew up in a tight-knit family, but as your Boomer parents have grown more devout and politically entrenched in retirement, you've drifted toward ambivalence and a quiet nihilism. With the big topics off-limits, how do you keep your bond from shrinking into phone calls about the weather?
- Recommendation of the Week: Darn Tough Tactical Boot Full Cushion Socks — Jordan discovered these merino-nylon wonders at Burning Man, where they kept his feet dry through scorching days and warm through freezing nights. Knit in Vermont and guaranteed for life, could these be the last socks you ever buy?
- You took a three-week solo trip through Portugal, Spain, and Greece — seaside swims, stupidly good food, new friends, and a fling with an Estonian guy — yet long stretches of unfamiliar loneliness left you shaken. Was the whole thing a false paradise, or was that loneliness trying to tell you something?

When amateur mad scientists can leverage AI to engineer future pandemics, we need to be prepared to counter the threat. Rob Reid is here to tell us how.
Full show notes and resources can be found here: jordanharbinger.com/1390
What We Discuss with Rob Reid:
- How a terrifying thought experiment reframes bio risk. Rob argues the scariest scenario isn't a Soviet-style industrial complex but the mere passage of time, since an exponential technology turns what a handful of elite specialists can do today into routine undergraduate coursework tomorrow.
- Why a $100 million USAID program called DEEP VZN struck Rob as a suicide pact. The plan was to hunt 15,000 undiscovered viruses, sort them for which posed the gravest threat, then publish the findings openly. Rob and MIT's Kevin Esvelt pushed until it was quietly defanged and later killed.
- What makes smart, well-meaning people defend this work. Rob points to an insider culture where open-science absolutism, confidence that we'd out-invent any bad actor, and vaccine promises that collapse under scrutiny combine into a stew that lets good people talk themselves into terrible ideas.
- Why Rob keeps returning to aviation as the model. America had 40 to 50 hijackings a year until basic airport screening arrived in 1972, and the next year there were zero. You can't make a threat impossible, but a high enough bar forces conspiracies big enough for law enforcement to catch.
- Fortunately, the countermeasures are cheap and already understood. Wastewater sequencing at major airports, stockpiled gear for frontline workers, and germicidal UV light in schools and hospitals would cost a sliver of the defense budget. Denial and despair both produce nothing.

How did Russia's mafia become its government? Jamison Firestone, a Moscow lawyer who dealt with both, explains how Putin turned the courts into a racket.
Full show notes and resources can be found here: jordanharbinger.com/1389
What We Discuss with Jamison Firestone:
- How Russia's justice system became a pay-to-play storefront where a rival could buy the whole package — investigation, arrest, jail, and conviction — with one respected opposition paper later pricing Sergei Magnitsky's arrest at $6 million.
- Why Putin's 2004 takedown of oligarch Mikhail Khodorkovsky was the turning point. Once investigators, prosecutors, and judges learned to railroad someone for the state, they realized they could sell the same service to anyone.
- What growing up around his father's crack habit, contract killers, and Manhattan's priciest brothel taught Jamison about handling mobsters, and how respect, humor, and non-yes-or-no answers helped him fire a Russian protection racket.
- How Magnitsky exposed a $230 million tax fraud, died in custody after being denied medical care, and was then blamed for the very crime he reported, and how the fight for accountability produced the Magnitsky Act's targeted sanctions.
- What Jamison learned from backing Yeltsin's 1993 assault on his own Congress — a crisis that cost him his best friend — and why guarding democratic institutions over any policy of the moment protects all of us, whichever side we're on.

Do divorced dads always lose the kids and half their stuff in court? On Skeptical Sunday, Nick Pell shares how he got 50-50 custody and child support!
Welcome to Skeptical Sunday, a special edition of The Jordan Harbinger Show where Jordan and a guest break down a topic that you may have never thought about, open things up, and debunk common misconceptions. This time around, we’re joined by writer and researcher Nick Pell!
Full show notes and resources can be found here: jordanharbinger.com/1388
On This Week's Skeptical Sunday:
- Family court's rep as a kangaroo court run by man-hating judges is a relic of the '80s. Every state now has gender-neutral custody and child support laws, "best interests of the child" is the North Star, and effective 50-50 parenting is increasingly the norm — not the exception.
- Accusations aren't evidence — and judges have heard them all before, probably that very morning. Without receipts like police reports or documented incidents, divorce-day abuse claims rarely stick, and calling your ex an "abusive narcissist" may sink your credibility, not theirs.
- The real villain isn't anti-father bias — it's billable hours. A roughly $50 billion divorce industry rewards lawyers who stoke emotions and feed the sunk-cost fallacy, turning a few-grand, few-month settlement into a six-figure, two-year slog that bleeds everyone dry.
- Many dads lose before the opening bell — they swallow the horror stories, panic at a bluffed custody evaluation, and fold. Meanwhile, "family court reform" activists want allegations treated as true until proven false, flipping innocent-until-proven-guilty on its head.
- How do you stand a chance at winning? Lawyer up fast, and pick one who favors a cooperative settlement over a bloodbath. Document everything, stay involved in your kid's life, and keep communication BIFF: brief, informative, factual, firm. Courts reward the calm adult in the room, so be that adult.

On This Week's Feedback Friday:
- If Gabe's movie news isn't quite your bucket of popcorn, we'll give you the full Hollywood treatment and roll out the red carpet, and you can skip to the first question at 26 minutes and 30 seconds!
- You met a charming guy who works for a judge — set up by the police chief's wife — and he whisked you off to Italy. Back home, instead of a sweet text, came a $21,000 invoice, a small-claims loss, and a lien on your property. Is suing him for fraud worth the fight, or was this just the priciest date in history?
- You wrote in a while back about a rocky marriage and a spark with a woman from a conference in Indiana. Now the fuller picture emerges — explosive rages, extreme OCD, counseling flatly refused — and divorce papers sit with your attorney. How do you share a roof once she's served, and will moving out cost you custody?
- Recommendation of the Week: Isopure Protein Drink — a light, Gatorade-like alternative to milky shakes that packs 32 grams of protein, goes down easy mid-workout, and, unlike nearly every other protein drink, still tastes fine warm. Jordan found it after sampling the protein-spiked teas of Hong Kong.
- You're 45, married almost 20 years, with four kids and a warehouse career you helped grow from $1M to $40M. Then came the numbness, the lost names and dates, the flashes of temper — plus a layoff and open-heart surgery. Is this depression, early-onset dementia, or just midlife, and where do you even turn for help?

Russia's spy services are a bungling clown show that can still kill you anywhere. Here, ex-CIA officer Sean Wiswesser takes us inside Putin's secret war.
Full show notes and resources can be found here: jordanharbinger.com/1386
What We Discuss with Sean Wiswesser:
- Russian intelligence is a paradox. It's comprised largely of bungling fools who siphon gas from their own surveillance cars and binge-watch The Sopranos, yet they remain formidable adversaries. What makes them dangerous isn't competence but real capability paired with no moral limits and no accountability.
- Corruption isn't a bug — it's the system. Officers invent sources and pad reports with rewritten news to flatter the boss. That yes-man culture is how Putin was assured Ukraine would be a one-week war, now in its fifth year. A criminalized service takes reckless risks.
- The most insidious threat isn't assassinations — it's information warfare. What Russia did in 2016 is now amplified thousands-fold by AI, and it targets American youth to erode their faith in democracy itself. The one thing democracy asks of us is an informed public.
- The West is fighting a hybrid war it won't name, with severed undersea cables, a targeted German CEO, teenagers hired on Telegram for sabotage, and drones over Poland. Deterrence without consequences invites more, and Sean warns the Baltics are likely next after any Ukraine ceasefire.
- Democracy runs on an informed public, so you are the defense. Slow down, resist reacting to clickbait on emotion, and check sources before you share. And if anyone ever tries to compromise or coerce you, report it — silence is the only leverage they hold.

The map says oasis; the aisles say Doritos. This Skeptical Sunday, Jessica Wynn explains why grocery stores failed to fix how low-income neighborhoods eat.
Welcome to Skeptical Sunday, a special edition of The Jordan Harbinger Show where Jordan and a guest break down a topic that you may have never thought about, open things up, and debunk common misconceptions. This time around, we’re joined by writer and researcher Jessica Wynn!
Full show notes and resources can be found here: jordanharbinger.com/1385
On This Week's Skeptical Sunday:
- A 'food desert' is the USDA's label for a low-income neighborhood where hundreds of people live over a mile from a large grocery store — too far, the theory goes, so they eat worse. Build a store and diets improve. Yet billions of dollars later, most residents were already driving past one to shop elsewhere.
- Distance was never the driver — equalizing access and prices closes just nine to ten percent of the diet gap. The rest is preference, and preference isn't fixed taste; it's learned from culture, marketing, price, and stress. West Harlem got a great supermarket 15 years ago, yet obesity stayed high.
- The same government building stores to fix diets spends roughly $9 billion a year subsidizing crops like corn and soy — the raw material for syrup, seed oils, and cheap meat. Fresh produce gets under ten percent. No wonder a pint of blueberries costs more than a family-size bag of Blue Takis.
- The sharper problem isn't the desert but the swamp — neighborhoods saturated with fast food, dollar stores, and junk promotions. Counties with the worst swamp scores saw 77% higher obesity-related cancer deaths. A store can even be a mirage: it's there, but the shelves are mostly Doritos.
- You can't buy health by proximity, but you can build it through knowledge. Don't abandon the food you love; adjust it. Swap corn oil for olive, tweak a method, make one familiar dish a little healthier. Preference is learned, which means it can be relearned, starting now.

On This Week's Feedback Friday:
- At 42, a British dad with a young daughter, you fell hard and fast for an incredible American woman — hours of video calls, a magical weekend in London, whole futures sketched out. Then her dream job landed and her aging parents' pull won out, and she ended it. You cut off all contact. Did fear decide too soon?
- Your daughter arrived a couple months ago, and so did a familiar problem: your overbearing mother, who kisses the baby after you begged her not to, drops by unannounced, and insists "there are no boundaries." A book finally named the childhood wound behind it. Now how do you set limits that actually stick?
- You became a committed Christian and joined a tiny, tight-knit church — half of them one family — but the sexual double entendres, lap-sitting, and playful kissing leave you uneasy in a house of worship. Leadership just says show grace. Is this a culture clash, or a sign your values no longer fit?
- Recommendation of the Week: No Country for Old Men — Jordan rewatched the Coen brothers' Cormac McCarthy adaptation and was floored all over again by their restraint, ambiguity, and mastery. His broader rec is basically the whole Coen catalog, from Fargo to Inside Llewyn Davis. These dudes rarely miss.
- At 35, single, an embryologist with a shrimp tank and a stable career, you took a trip to Costa Rica and cried on the plane home, never feeling more at home anywhere. Now you're eyeing visas, a possible PhD, a whole new life. Is it too late, or are you just trading comfort for something braver?

We're apes stuck in a zoo of our own design. Christopher Ryan, author of Civilized to Death, reveals what modern life is really doing to us.
Full show notes and resources can be found here: jordanharbinger.com/1383
What We Discuss with Chris Ryan:
- Civilization loves writing its own Yelp reviews — the story that it saved us from lives that were nasty, brutish, and short is propaganda. We never doubled the human lifespan either; a wave of child deaths dragged the average down, while hunter-gatherer adults routinely reached their seventies.
- Many of the problems civilization brags about solving, it created. Contaminated water, crushed teeth, and the plagues bred by crowding and livestock all arrived with us. It's like lighting your house on fire, then showing up with a bucket and expecting thanks.
- Pick the yardstick and you win the argument — so we count GDP, tennis rackets, and mango slicers instead of loneliness, chronic pain, and despair. By honest measures, record anxiety and suicide among the young point to a culture built for commercial interests, not human ones.
- Agriculture wasn't a triumphant invention — it was an emergency irrigation fix during drought that ratcheted into a trap. Surplus grain needed storing, storing needed guarding, guards needed bosses, and the cascade rolled on to taxation, hierarchy, patriarchy, and slavery.
- The good thing is that none of this is destiny, and, for the first time in human history, we can choose how we live. This week, shrink your world to human scale: learn your neighbors' names, get into nature, share the caregiving, and find work that feels more like play. Helping others is the oldest cure.

Digital feudalism or Star Trek at warp factor 9? The Last Economy author Emad Mostaque lays out the two futures toward which AI is racing us.
Full show notes and resources can be found here: jordanharbinger.com/1382
What We Discuss with Emad Mostaque:
- How AI's real disruption arrives long before it achieves sci-fi superintelligence. Emad's test is whether a digital twin can do a standard white-collar job remotely, at the same level, with no one able to tell it from the human. At the time of this interview, his 1,000-day clock now reads 684.
- Why cost is the tipping point: a humanoid robot renting near $1.50 an hour, digital workers replacing costly graduates, and AI that thinks roughly a thousand times faster, never sleeps, and won't repeat a mistake, out-competing any all-human firm.
- What happens when capital makes more capital without workers. Wealth concentrates around whoever owns the GPUs and robots, abundance registers as catastrophe, and the likely responses — debt jubilees, UBI, or civil insurrection — reshape income and ownership.
- Why ownership may matter more than intelligence itself. If the AI teaching kids, advising doctors, and interpreting law belongs to a government or a few unelected firms, digital feudalism looms, sharpened by super-persuader models that detect lies and steer choices.
- How to stay ahead: become AI-enabled now. Learn how these systems work, be the person bringing them into your organization, or use them to launch something of your own, while pushing for a future where people own intelligence aligned to human flourishing.

The housing crisis is real, but the villain isn't the one you think. Nick Pell nails down the real culprits here on Skeptical Sunday!
Welcome to Skeptical Sunday, a special edition of The Jordan Harbinger Show where Jordan and a guest break down a topic that you may have never thought about, open things up, and debunk common misconceptions. This time around, we’re joined by writer and researcher Nick Pell!
Full show notes and resources can be found here: jordanharbinger.com/1381
On This Week's Skeptical Sunday:
- The villain behind the housing affordability crisis isn't BlackRock. The scare stat that private equity owns 20% of single-family homes? The Urban Institute — a left-leaning shop — clocks it under 4%. Even grandpa renting out a condo counts as an "investor." Aim your outrage at the right enemy.
- Before a single plank of wood gets nailed, regulations bake about 24% into a new home's price — roughly $94,000 nationally, north of $150K in California. It's effectively illegal to build a genuinely cheap house, and almost nobody is protesting that.
- Golden handcuffs froze the market: why trade a 3% mortgage for a 6% one? Owners now sit tight a record 11 years, the listings that exist cluster between $750K and $1 million, and the starter home you could actually afford never reaches the market.
- The other culprit is your neighbor Greg, who treats vinyl siding as a war crime. Mandated gables, brick on all four sides, half-acre lots, mature trees — pure aesthetics, zero safety — heap tens of thousands onto every build and quietly outlaw the starter home.
- The empowering truth is that scarcity is a policy choice, so it's reversible — and the decisive fights are local. Show up to the city-council meetings you've been skipping. And credit is more fixable than you'd guess — Nick raised his 120 points in a year just paying down debt.

A drink with a stranger in Colombia cost you your savings, your safety, and your peace. As the victim, are you entirely blameless? It's Feedback Friday!
And in case you didn't already know it, Jordan Harbinger (@JordanHarbinger) and Gabriel Mizrahi (@GabeMizrahi) banter and take your comments and questions for Feedback Friday right here every week! If you want us to answer your question, register your feedback, or tell your story on one of our upcoming weekly Feedback Friday episodes, drop us a line at [email protected]. Now let's dive in!

On This Week's Feedback Friday:
- If you want to take a high-speed delivery drone past the dystopian cityscape of Jordan's latest China stories, you can skip ahead to around 20 minutes and 50 seconds!
- You'd clawed your way back — 115 pounds gone, the Pacific Crest Trail behind you — when a Colombia trip meant to start a new chapter became a scopolamine nightmare: drugged, assaulted, and drained of tens of thousands while the banks shrugged that biometrics don't lie. Where do you even begin to rebuild?
- The affair that blew up your marriage never ended — you've quietly kept seeing her through the ugly divorce. Now she's done hiding and wants to meet your kids and family, who only know her as the scandal, and your ex is poised to weaponize it. How do you drag the secret into daylight without torching everything?
- Recommendation of the Week: Slice Mini Ceramic Box Cutter — a purse-sized blade with a ceramic edge that feels dull to the touch yet slices clean through cardboard and plastic. It's kid-safe, TSA-friendly, and, per Jen, weirdly indispensable for life's most random little jobs.
- You've watched a colleague you care about come apart at the seams — a hidden drinking problem you never saw coming, now impossible to unsee. You feel responsible for keeping her afloat, dreading the day something breaks. But is rescuing her really your job, or just the thing that quiets your own fear?

Convinced you missed your shot at getting rich? Historian and former broke professor Joseph Moore is here to explain why it's never been easier.
Full show notes and resources can be found here: jordanharbinger.com/1379
What We Discuss with Joseph Moore:
- The "American Dream is dead" cry is 300 years old. Colonists burned their own capital over it in 1676, long before the phrase existed. A despair industrial complex profits by telling you the game is rigged, because doom earns the clicks, votes, and tenure that good news won't.
- Getting ahead has never been easier — not easy, not fair, just easier. Six in 10 born in the bottom fifth climb out, one in 10 reach the top, and both wages and purchasing power beat what they were at your birth. Your ancestors would have prayed for these odds.
- Real wealth is built in slow time. Movies and headlines sell the dramatic version, so we chase crypto and sports betting for a fast-time win. That's not how fortunes are made.
- Budgeting, index funds, and skipping avocado toast protect wealth but rarely build it — that's just solving your own problems. You get wealthy solving other people's, taking risks others avoid, and moving toward opportunity. And no "timeless" money advice is timeless; it keeps changing.
- The best slow-time move you can make this week is to invest in yourself. A course, certificate, or skill that lifts your earning power can double or triple your income, outpacing any index fund. Believe you can, then take the risk. It's always been possible.
- And much more...

Female genital mutilation (FGM) is happening right now to girls worldwide. Jessica Wynn explains why — and what stops it — on Skeptical Sunday.
Welcome to Skeptical Sunday, a special edition of The Jordan Harbinger Show where Jordan and a guest break down a topic that you may have never thought about, open things up, and debunk common misconceptions. This time around, we’re joined by writer and researcher Jessica Wynn!
Full show notes and resources can be found here: jordanharbinger.com/1378
On This Week's Skeptical Sunday:
- Female Genital Mutilation isn't a fringe practice — an estimated 230 million women and girls alive today have undergone FGM, and the number is climbing, up 15 percent in eight years. More than two million girls are cut each year, most before their fifth birthday, some within days of being born.
- FGM isn't Islamic — it predates Islam and appears among Christian and non-religious communities alike; the common thread is culture, not theology. "God requires this" is used as control, which is also why trusted religious leaders are among the strongest voices for ending it.
- The decision is overwhelmingly made by women — mothers, grandmothers, aunts — not fathers. But they act inside a system where marriage, status, and inheritance hinge on being cut, so it isn't simply men oppressing women. FGM and child marriage are two gears in one machine.
- The fastest-growing myth is that cutting is safer in a clinic — about one in four recent cases were done by healthcare workers, up to 75 percent in Egypt. There is no safe version. Medicalizing FGM doesn't reduce harm; it lends the practice a veil of legitimacy that helps it survive.
- Here's what actually works: change from the inside out. When communities talk their own way to abandoning FGM, as in Somaliland and Tostan's villages, it sticks. You can help: fund survivor-led groups, check whether your state bans FGM, back healthcare training, and keep the conversation alive.

On This Week's Feedback Friday:
- If you want to take a siesta on Gabe's Barcelona adventures and resident post-traumatic growth expert Arseny Thumb von Neuburg's thoughts on cognitive empathy vs. affective empathy, skip forward about 16 minutes and 30 seconds!
- You're a pedophile who's never acted on it and swears you never will — but the secret is crushing you. You want a therapist to help you rewire your brain, yet you're terrified that opening up triggers mandatory reporting and torches the life you've built. Where does someone in your position even find real help?
- Remember the lonely wife from episode 1365 — the one whose husband grinds 80-90 hours a week and never plans the date night or trip she keeps asking for? A sharp listener writes in to reframe the whole thing: maybe it was never about a vacation, but about who quietly carries everything else. So who's really right?
- You're a vegan wellness pro who buried your father, brother, and mother from heart disease — and now you're watching your partner of 20 years surrender to four medications, a widening waistline, and financial shame. You have the knowledge to help him; what you lack is the key to reaching him. How do you break through?
- Recommendation of the Week: My Dad Wrote a Porno — the podcast where a man discovers his mild-mannered retired dad secretly wrote a gloriously terrible erotic novel, then reads it aloud with two friends, chapter by chapter. Some of the finest comedy around!
- You've quietly become the person your kid self dreamed of — great job, a dog you adore, hobbies, real friends. Now an inheritance could bankroll the wild dream: a plot in northern England, your own planted forest, a hand-built cabin, food you grow yourself. Do you leap, or is that just skipping down delulu lane?

How does shame curdle into addiction? Ex-dealer and federal informant Sean Hemeon retraces his descent and the long climb back to sober.
Full show notes and resources can be found here: jordanharbinger.com/1376
What We Discuss with Sean Hemeon:
- Sean Hemeon was primed for addiction before he ever tried meth. Abandoned at four, taught by his church that being gay made him diseased, meth gave him the confidence and belonging shame had denied him. It didn't create the void, but filled one that was already there.
- Moral collapse is gradual, not sudden. A year without a sober breath is how a smart person ends up stuffing meth into a dying stranger's nose, hoping to restart his heart. Boundaries don't break all at once — they give way one rationalization at a time.
- The system meant to stop the harm made it worse. Agents saved in Sean's phone as 'yes' and 'no' pushed him back into dealing to gather intel. A judge charmed by his school's basketball team let him walk. The outcome had less to do with the crime than with luck.
- A grieving mother found Sean's number on her dead son's last phone bill and called, begging him not to hang up. He hung up. That choice broke his image of himself as a good person and left a debt he's still trying to pay.
- You can't undo the worst thing you've done, but you can stop running from it. 21 years sober, Sean tells the truth, stays reachable, and would fly to that mother tomorrow if she called. Accountability isn't feeling guilty, but facing the damage.

Think you need to be an "alpha" to win? Nick Pell debunks the wolf-pack myth and reveals what actually earns respect here on Skeptical Sunday!
Welcome to Skeptical Sunday, a special edition of The Jordan Harbinger Show where Jordan and a guest break down a topic that you may have never thought about, open things up, and debunk common misconceptions. This time around, we’re joined by writer and researcher Nick Pell!
Full show notes and resources can be found here: jordanharbinger.com/1375
On This Week's Skeptical Sunday:
- An "alpha" is supposedly the dominant top dog — the leader who takes 90% of life's spoils while the lesser "betas" scrap for crumbs. But the whole pecking order traces back to a 1940s study of captive wolves crammed into a pen — the "wolf prison yard," not real pack life.
- The biologist who made "alpha" famous, L. David Mech, spent decades disavowing his own bestseller. The so-called alpha wolves aren't the toughest fighters who clawed their way up — they're just the parents. The pack defers to them because they bring the food.
- Humans didn't conquer the planet by bullying — we did it by cooperating. We're "obligate cooperators," self-domesticated apes who arguably bred aggression out of ourselves. Nobody builds a pencil, let alone a moon rocket, alone. Dominance is a liability, not a cheat code.
- Real influence runs on prestige, not dominance (a distinction from anthropologist Joseph Henrich). Fear makes people hide problems — think D-Day, when nobody dared wake Hitler, or Vietnam-era "fragging." Domineering bosses get avoided; competent ones get followed.
- Want to actually lead? Drop the dominance act and build competence instead. Lead by example, stay approachable so small problems reach you while they're still small, and treat people as collaborators rather than rivals. Prestige is freely given — and it's what makes people want to follow you.

On This Week's Feedback Friday:
- Don't want to hear about Gabe's Spanish hippie countryside misadventures? Fast forward to 16 minutes and 20 seconds!
- 19 years married, two young sons, and a husband whose army malaria-drug trial and years as a cop left him traumatized — now off his meds, raging at every institution on Earth, and dropping $60K on domain names in a manic spree. Your compassion is bottomless, but so is the toll on the kids. When does devotion quietly curdle into self-sacrifice?
- Nine years in, blended families and shared pets, and you don't doubt his love for a second — but your name isn't on the deed, the mortgage, or anything a hospital or a court would ever recognize. Raise it, and he changes the subject. You want protection, not necessarily a ring. How do you get a straight answer without lobbing an ultimatum?
- Your mother-in-law raised four thriving kids in a spotless home, and now you can barely cross her rooms for the Dollar Tree hauls of stuff she already owns and can't find. She's hypersensitive, a past with the bottle lurks nearby, and you're the closest of her kids — so the job of stepping in falls to you. How do you broach the hoarding without shattering her?
- Recommendation of the Week: visualping.io — a tireless little watchdog that monitors any web page for changes and emails you the moment something moves, whether it's a piece of software that won't auto-update, a Wikipedia edit, your own site going down, or the kids' Little League schedule. Jordan's quietly made it a staple of his workflow.
- Weeks ago you were sharing custody of Frankie with an ex who demanded 50-50 but turned up maybe 10 percent of the year and never chipped in a dime for vet bills. Jordan and Gabe told you to keep her full-time — so you finally sent the message you'd been dreading for weeks. Did it detonate the way you braced for, or something stranger?

1373: Sonja Lyubomirsky | Five Mindsets to Get You More of What Matters

Money, fame, and abs buy admiration, not intimacy. How to Feel Loved author Sonja Lyubomirsky reveals the five mindsets that make you feel loved.
Full show notes and resources can be found here: jordanharbinger.com/1373
What We Discuss with Sonja Lyubomirsky:
- Being loved and feeling loved are two different things. Surveys found 70 percent of people can name a close relationship where the love just isn't landing. Someone can adore you completely, but if it never clears your firewall, you can feel utterly alone in a room full of people who care.
- The fix isn't becoming more lovable or overhauling your partner — it's changing the next conversation. A relationship is really just a series of conversations, which means feeling more loved is far more under your control than the entire self-help aisle wants you to believe.
- Money, status, and six-pack abs buy admiration, not intimacy — and admiration never makes anyone feel known. Optimizing your dating life like you're shopping for a used Porsche, chasing the mythical 'four sixes,' only builds a more elaborate CAPTCHA for loneliness.
- The five love languages are closer to pop theology than science. Researchers debunked the idea that partners must 'match' or the relationship is doomed. There are far more than five ways to connect, and the two everyone actually craves are simply quality time and words of affirmation.
- If you don't feel loved, go first. Get curious, listen to learn instead of to reply, share, and lead with warmth. Text that old friend, ask your parents real questions, break out the conversation cards. Connection is a skill, and every small drop counts.
- And much more...
