    Mark 8: 1-13

We continue our journey through Mark with the feeding of the four thousand. In a remote place with no way to purchase enough food, Jesus sees the hungry crowd and responds with compassion. Seven loaves and a few small fish could never feed thousands on their own—but Jesus is not limited by what his disciples have.

Kids will compare this miracle with the feeding of the five thousand from episode 423, discover what was similar and different, and consider why the Pharisees continued asking Jesus for a sign after all he had done.

This story reminds us that Jesus is compassionate and mighty. What seems impossible to us is never beyond him.

Series: The Gospel of Mark, Part 27

Jesus meets a man who cannot hear and can hardly speak. Through personal, compassionate actions and one powerful command—“Be opened!”—Jesus completely heals him. Children will discover how this miracle fulfills God’s promise through Isaiah and reveals Jesus as the promised King, compassionate healer, and Savior.

    In this episode, kids will:

    • Hear the account of Jesus healing a deaf man who could hardly speak.
    • Notice how Jesus communicated with the man in a way he could understand.
    • Learn that Jesus’ authority is not magic—He has power as the Son of God.
    • Connect the miracle in Mark with God’s promise in Isaiah 35.
    • Be encouraged to trust God’s promises while waiting for Jesus to return.

Central takeaway: God kept His promise to send Jesus, so we can trust that He will keep every promise—including His promise that Jesus will return and make all things new.

Scripture References: Mark 7:17–30; Matthew 28:18–20; Romans 5:8

Jesus travels to the region of Tyre, where a Gentile mother boldly asks Him to heal her daughter. Jesus answers with a short parable about children’s bread and little dogs. Although His words may sound insulting to us at first, Jesus was not cruelly insulting this hurting mother. His parable showed the order of His ministry—Israel first, and then the Gentiles.

    In this episode, kids will:

    • Learn what the word Gentile means.
    • Learn what a parable is and better understand Jesus’ parable about the children’s bread and the little dogs.
    • Discover that Jesus is the promised Messiah and Savior of people from every nation.
    • Understand that grace and salvation are gifts from Jesus—not rewards we earn by being good enough.

Like the mother in this story, we can approach Jesus not because we’ve been perfect but because He is good—and “while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).

    Mark 7:9–23

Jesus continues His conversation with the Pharisees and teachers of the law, showing how human traditions can become excuses for disobeying God. Through the example of Corban, Jesus reveals that something can sound religious while still hiding a heart that is far from Him.

Then Jesus turns everyone’s attention from what is outside the body to what is within.

In this episode, kids will learn:

      • God’s Word has greater authority than human traditions.
      • A good activity should never become an excuse for disobedience.
      • Biblical “heart” is not the heart organ in our chest and is explained.
      • Our circumstances may reveal anger, envy, pride, or other sin already within us- kid examples used to help them grasp this.
      • Everyone who repents and trusts in Jesus is forgiven and made right with God.

    Big idea

Sin begins within our hearts, and only Jesus can forgive and cleanse our sinful hearts

    A Note for Parents

Because families listen with children of different ages and at different stages of development, Verse 21  has been adapted with young listeners in mind. Parents may wish to read the complete passage below and explain its terms in the way they believe is most appropriate for their family:

“For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.” —Mark 7:21–23

    Scripture: Mark 7:1–8, Romans 13

The Pharisees and teachers of the law looked devoted to God. They knew Scripture, followed many religious traditions, and appeared very obedient. But when they criticized Jesus’ disciples for eating without performing a ceremonial washing, Jesus revealed what was truly happening beneath their outward appearance: they honored God with their words, but their hearts were far from Him.

In this episode, children will learn :

    1. That good-looking actions do not always flow from a heart that loves God.

    2. We’ll explore the difference between real fruit and “pretend fruit”

    3. Discover how God’s commands show us what love looks like.

    4. Remember that we obey God because He loved us first—not to earn His love or impress others.

    5. We still obey even if we don't feel like it.

Jesus and his disciples are searching for a quiet place to rest—but thousands of people follow them. When Jesus sees the crowd, he has deep compassion because they are like sheep without a shepherd.

In this episode, children will hear how Jesus miraculously feeds more than five thousand people with only five loaves and two fish. They’ll discover that Jesus is the Good Shepherd who sees, cares for, and provides for his sheep.

The disciples could not perform the miracle, but Jesus invited them to participate. They brought him what they had and trusted him to do what only he could do.

PARENTS: Because children of many different ages and stages listen to this podcast, a few details in this account have been carefully adapted while remaining faithful to what Scripture teaches. In this episode, we do not include the graphic details of John’s death.

In today’s episode, we hear what happened to John the Baptist after he courageously confronted King Herod about his sin. Herod knew John was a righteous and holy man—and he even liked listening to him. But when Herod had to choose between doing what was right and protecting his reputation, pride took over.

Kids will learn that pride is more than bragging. Pride says, “I know best,” and places our desires above God’s Word. We’ll also discover why simply hearing God’s truth is not the same as believing, repenting, and obeying.

    What We’ll Learn

    • John courageously spoke God’s truth—even when it was scary.
    • Hearing God’s Word is not the same as obeying it.
    • Pride can make us care more about looking good than doing what is right.
    • Discuss what humility is not.

Jesus sent out the Twelve — two by two, with nothing but a walking stick and their sandals. Why twelve? And why send them out with nothing? In this episode, we go all the way back to Jacob and the twelve tribes of Israel to discover what Jesus was really doing — and we learn that the power to do His work is always a gift He gives, never something we pack, earn, or figure out on our own.

    In this episode:

    • Why the number twelve points all the way back to Jacob and the twelve tribes of Israel
    • How the first twelve tribes struggled to do their job — and how Jesus started fresh with a new twelve
    • What it meant to travel with "nothing" — and who the disciples had to trust
    • What it means to repent

  10. #420: Isn't That Just the Carpenter? · Mark · Part 19

    15 Min.

    Shownotes

    Mark 6:1-6

Jesus goes home to Nazareth — and sees the people who watched Him grow up. They know His mother, His brothers, His sisters. Isn't that just the carpenter? They think and when He stands up in the synagogue and teaches with astonishing wisdom, they don't fall to their knees. They fold their arms.

In this episode we walk through the verse that says "And he could do no mighty work there." Was Jesus not strong enough? Not for one second. Kids will learn why the King held back the joy of His kingdom from a town that had shut the door on Him — and why sometimes a big danger isn't doubting Jesus, but getting used to Him.

    WHAT KIDS WILL LEARN

    • "His own country" / "hometown" means Nazareth — the village where Jesus grew up (He was born in Bethlehem, raised in Nazareth)
    • Being astonished by Jesus is not the same as believing in Jesus
    • Calling Him "the son of Mary" instead of "the son of Joseph" was a quiet insult
    • "Could do no mighty work" does not mean Jesus lacked power — it means it would have been wrong for the King to pour out His kingdom's joy on people who had rejected Him
    • Jesus' miracles are signs, not tricks — windows showing the King has arrived
    • Faith is a gift from God, not something we work up on our own

    Mark series · Part 18 | Scripture: Mark 5:35–43

The messengers arrive with the worst news a father could ever hear: Jairus's little girl has died. "Why bother the teacher anymore?" But Jesus turns to the heartbroken dad and says, "Don't be afraid; just believe."

Together we walk the long, silent road to Jairus's house and witness one of the most tender moments in the Gospel of Mark — Jesus taking a little girl by the hand and calling her back to life.

Jairus came asking for a healing. Jesus gave him something far greater. A gentle, hope-filled episode for talking with your kids about a hard subject — death — and the One who is stronger than it.

    In This Episode

    • "Not dead but asleep" — and why the mourners laughed
    • A gentle look at "chronological snobbery": the people of Jesus' day knew exactly what death was — they weren't gullible

    The Big Idea

This story answers the question the disciples first asked back in the storm — "Who is this?" — Jesus is the One with power over death itself. And He uses that power tenderly: mighty enough to raise the dead, gentle enough to hold a little girl's hand.

It points us forward to Jesus' own death and resurrection, and to the hope for everyone who trusts Him.

    Series: Mark part 17

In today's episode, we continue our journey through the Gospel of Mark and meet a woman who had been sick for twelve years. She had tried everything. Spent everything. And nothing had worked. But she had heard about Jesus—and she believed that if she could just get close enough to touch His cloak, she would be healed.

    And she was. Instantly.

But then Jesus stopped and asked, "Who touched me?" The disciples thought it was a silly question—everyone was touching Him! So why did Jesus stop and ask?

    Today we find out.

We also meet Jairus—an important man who falls at Jesus' feet and begs Him to come heal his dying daughter. Jesus agrees and heads that way. But then the news arrives: "Your daughter is dead."

We will have to wait until next time to find out what happens next…

In This Episode We Talk About:

    • Why Jesus stopped
    • What a superstition is and why Jesus didn't want the woman to have one
    • What faith really means for young kids today
    • How to trust Jesus with the things that feel scary or hard

    Scripture: Mark 5:1–20

In today’s episode, we continue our journey through the Gospel of Mark and see Jesus step onto the shore in the region of the Gerasenes. There, He meets a man who is suffering terribly and living among the tombs.

This story includes demons, sometimes the Bible also calls them unclean spirits, but we handle this carefully and remind kids of the most important truth: Jesus is stronger than darkness.

As Jesus speaks with authority, the unclean spirits must obey Him. The man who had been alone, hurting, and in bondage is restored. When the people come and see him, he is sitting with Jesus, dressed, and in his right mind. What a beautiful picture of mercy and rescue.

This episode helps kids see that Jesus does not only save and restore people so they can keep it to themselves. He gives His people a story to tell. Wherever Jesus places us—at home, with friends, at school, or in our community—we can tell others how much the Lord has done.

    Today’s key truth:
Jesus is stronger than darkness, full of mercy, and wants us to share his goodness with others.

Have you ever been in a storm and felt afraid? In today’s episode, we continue our journey through the Gospel of Mark and hear the incredible story of Jesus calming the storm.

After a long day of teaching, Jesus and His disciples crossed the Sea of Galilee by boat. Many of the disciples were experienced fishermen, so they knew storms well—but this storm was terrifying.

    Today’s Key Truth:
Storms do not mean Jesus has left us or stopped loving us. Jesus is powerful over creation, and He is also loving toward His people. When life feels scary, we can turn to Him, pray, ask for help, and remember His love shown clearly at the cross.

In this episode, we continue our journey through the Gospel of Mark as Jesus teaches the crowds using parables.

Last time, we learned how people respond differently to God’s Word in the Parable of the Sower. Today, Jesus builds on that teaching and helps us understand something new: not just how we respond, but what God is doing.

Through the pictures of a lamp, a growing seed, and a tiny mustard seed, Jesus teaches us:

    • God’s truth is like a light—it is meant to be seen, not hidden
    • God is always at work, even when we cannot see it
    • His kingdom may start small, but it grows strong and cannot be stopped

    Scripture: Mark 4:1–20
In this episode, we continue our journey through the Gospel of Mark as Jesus teaches beside the lake and tells the Parable of the Sower. Jesus uses the picture of a farmer scattering seed to help us understand what happens in our hearts when we hear God’s Word. Kids will be invited to ask: How do I respond when I hear God's word ?

In this story, the seed represents God’s Word, and the different soils represent the different ways people respond when they hear it. Some hearts are distracted, some seem joyful at first but have no root, some are crowded by worries and desires, and some receive the Word, accept it, and produce fruit.

    Big Takeaways:

God’s Word is like seed planted in our hearts.

Jesus teaches that people respond to God’s Word in different ways.

Sin can make our hearts hard, shallow, distracted, or crowded.

We need Jesus to forgive us, change us, and help us receive His Word by faith.

The “crop” Jesus talks about is not corn or tomatoes—it is a changed life that looks more like Christ through love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

In today’s episode, we hear one of the most important questions anyone could ever ask: Who is Jesus really? Some people thought Jesus was out of His mind. Others accused Him of doing evil. But Jesus made the truth clear— He is the Son of God, and He came to destroy the works of the devil, rescue sinners, and bring people into the family of God.

We also hear Jesus say something surprising and beautiful: “Whoever does the will of God, he is my brother and sister and mother.”

    • This episode helps children understand:
-Jesus is the Son of God
-Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil
-People still respond to Jesus in different ways today
-All who trust in Jesus belong to the family of God

    📚 Series:

    The Gospel of Mark

    Mark 3:7–19

    🎧 Episode Summary:

Why would Jesus choose these men?

In today’s episode, we step into a moment where crowds are pressing in from every side—people eager to see Jesus, hear Him, and be healed. But then, something quieter—and just as important—happens.

Jesus goes up on a mountainside… and begins calling people to Himself.

One by one, He chooses twelve men—very different from each other—to be His apostles.

    But this wasn’t random.

In this episode, kids will learn:

    • Why Jesus chose twelve apostles
    • What the word “apostle” means
    • How this connects to the 12 tribes of Israel
    • Why Jesus chose such a variety of people
    • And what this teaches us about the family of God

This story helps children see that the good news of Jesus isn’t just for one kind of person—it’s for everyone.

    🧠 Key Teaching Moment:

Jesus didn’t choose the same kind of people.

He chose a very unlikely team—men with different jobs, personalities, and backgrounds.

    Why?

Because the Gospel is for all people.

👉 Even though we are all different, Christians are brought together by one thing:

    We believe in Jesus.
    We love Him.
    And we follow Him.

    Mark 3:1–6

In today’s story, Jesus enters a synagogue on the Sabbath and meets a man with a shriveled hand. While others watch closely—waiting to see if Jesus will break their rules—Jesus does something unexpected.

    He heals.

But instead of celebrating, the religious leaders become angry.

    Why?

Because they cared more about their rules… than people.

In this episode, we explore what the Sabbath was meant to be, what the Pharisees misunderstood, and what it means to truly love God and others.

    🔑 Key Truth

God’s laws are rooted in love—and they teach us how to love Him and others well.

Try asking your kids these questions this week:

👉 “Why does this rule exist?”
👉 “Does following it help us love others?”

👉 “Have you ever heard someone use one of God’s laws in the wrong way—maybe adding to it or twisting it?”

In today’s episode, we continue our journey through the Gospel of Mark and hear Jesus answer some questions. Why weren’t His disciples fasting? Why did the Pharisees get upset when they picked grain on the Sabbath? And what was Jesus showing everyone about God’s law, grace, and what it really means to belong to Him?

Kids will learn that Jesus did not come to patch up an old system. He came to bring something new.

In this episode, kids will hear:

    • What fasting means
    • Why Jesus compared Himself to a bridegroom
    • What new wine and old wineskins mean
    • Why the Pharisees were upset about the Sabbath

    Key truth:

Because we are accepted in Jesus, we obey out of love—not out of fear.

After Jesus rises from the dead, He lovingly gives Peter a second chance. This is a beautiful story of sadness, forgiveness, and hope—a reminder that Jesus never gives up on us, even when we mess up.

    Big Ideas for Little Hearts:

    • Jesus knows we’ll make mistakes, but He still loves us deeply.
    • Peter denied Jesus three times, but Jesus forgave him and gave him a new job.
    • Seeing the risen Jesus changed Peter from afraid to brave!

-The meaning of the torn veil (listen to episode #281 to go further)

-This was God's plan; there were no mistakes, no surprises. Jesus chose to lay down His life, and by doing so, Jesus took the weight of every sin, past, present, and future.

Because He chose to. He chose to obey God b/c he loves God the father!!!! God’s plan had been there all along to rescue us b/c he loves us that much!

In today’s episode, we continue our journey through the Gospel of Mark and meet a man named Levi, a tax collector whose life changed the moment Jesus said two simple words:

    “Follow me.”

But what happened next surprised the Pharisees. Instead of avoiding sinners, Jesus sat down and shared a meal with them.

When the Pharisees saw this, they asked a question that still matters today:

Why would a holy teacher eat with sinners?

We unpack what Jesus means when he said “ “I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

    Scripture: Mark 2:1–12

Jesus returns to Capernaum and a massive crowd gathers so tightly packed that there isn’t even room outside the door. While Jesus preaches the Word, four friends arrive carrying a paralyzed man—so desperate to get him to Jesus that they climb onto the roof, dig through it, and lower their friend down right in front of Him.

But instead of healing the man first, Jesus says something surprising: “Son, your sins are forgiven.” This becomes the beginning of controversy because the teachers of the law know that only God can forgive sins. Jesus responds by showing that He has authority on earth to forgive sins, and then proves it by commanding the man to stand, pick up his mat, and walk home.

This story reminds us that Jesus cares about our bodies and our needs, but our greatest need is to be forgiven and made right with God—something Jesus accomplished through His death and resurrection.
