KWMV
About the station
KWMV is a low-power FM radio station (LPFM) in the Wet Mountain Valley, Custer County, Colorado, USA. The station received the call sign KWMV in 2003 and began operations after extensive local donations and community initiatives. A community group initiated the project in 2001 through the Crystal Mountain Center for the Performing Arts, which applied for an FCC license for LPFM.
The transmission tower was erected on land belonging to the Custer County Sheriff’s Office, and studios were located in the WCPA building. The music library was stocked with donations of classical, jazz, folk, bluegrass, and country. KWMV serves the local community with diverse programming and honors the tradition of local radio.
The station is not to be confused with the historic blues station KWEM (West Memphis, Arkansas, 1947–1960), which promoted legends like Howlin’ Wolf and B.B. King. The well-known website kwmvradio.com belongs to KWEM’s online revival.
