About the station
North Sea Groove is an independent online radio station from the Netherlands that focuses on soul, jazz and funk. According to its own description, the programme relies on a broad rotation: well-known tracks run alongside album tracks, forgotten pieces and newer releases that match the station’s mood. The station broadcasts non-stop, around the clock, without fixed hit blocks.
The daytime programme is called Daytime Groove and offers relaxed music that is spread evenly across the day. In the evening, according to the website, the selection becomes warmer, deeper and more experimental; this is the job of the show After Hours. On Saturdays, The Live Sessions comes before that, two hours exclusively of live recordings featuring improvisations and special interpretations.
According to the website, the station is not backed by a large radio network but by Matthijs as a music lover and creator. The project began as an idea for a place of its own for soul, jazz and funk and gradually grew into an independent online offering.
