About the station

Radiodifusão Nacional da Guiné-Bissau (RDN) is the state public broadcaster of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, headquartered in the capital city Bissau. The station operates three main stations in Bissau (Nhacra), Catió and Gabú, as well as regional stations and an international service.

Programming is broadcast mainly in Portuguese as well as in national languages such as Kriol, Fula, Balanta, Susu, Mankanya, Papel, Bijagó, Felupe, Mandinka, Manjak, Beafada, Balanta Mané, Pajadinka and Nalu. RDN covers approximately 80% of the country via FM transmitters and offers news, interviews and reports on society, sports, culture and politics.

Its history dates back to the colonial era: the official broadcaster of Portuguese Guinea began in 1944, supplemented by ‘Rádio Libertação’ in 1964. After independence in 1974, the two merged on 10 September to form RDN under Agnelo Regalla. In 2003, the radio service was separated from Televisão da Guiné-Bissau. The station experienced strikes in 2018 and a military occupation in 2023.
