About the station
The station Swissradio.ch Classical is part of the internet radio offering of swissradio.ch, which started in August 2002 from Berlin under the name RadioCrazy Classical & Jazz. The music came from the private record collection of the Swiss music historian Carl Flisch-Aghayan. Initially, the programme was presented and broadcast between Berlin and Dortmund. Due to rising fees for GEMA and GVL, the operation moved its headquarters to Switzerland.
In 2004, the IG Schweizer Internetradio was founded, which advocated for non-commercial web radio stations in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. In 2009, the Public Domain Project followed, which aimed to make public domain recordings accessible and was supported by Wikimedia Deutschland.
Since 2019, Flisch-Aghayan has withdrawn from the former foundation and is building up his own private sound archive. According to the website, the broadcasts are currently not in operation, and a resumption has been announced. The stream links of the classical channels are accordingly no longer available.
