Bayrak International

Bayrak International is the English-language radio programme of the Bayrak Radio Television Corporation (BRT), the public broadcaster of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

The BRT was founded on 25 December 1963 as Bayrak Radio to give the Turkish Cypriot communities their own voice. The first broadcast went on air from a garage in Nicosia with limited range, powered by car batteries. On 24 February 1964 the station became receivable across Cyprus with a medium-wave transmitter. Bayrak International broadcasts music and news on VHF frequencies and online.

The programme is aimed at an international audience in Northern Cyprus and is made accessible worldwide via the Internet. Previously there were shortwave broadcasts, which were discontinued in 2012. The BRT expanded to include television in 1976.
