About the station

MDR Serbski Rozhlós is the Sorbian programme of the Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR). It broadcasts in Upper Sorbian and Lower Sorbian for the Sorbian minority in Upper Lusatia.

The first Sorbian-language radio broadcast on German soil took place on 14 October 1948. From 1953, a Sorbian studio was established in Görlitz, which continued in 1956 as the Sorbian Editorial Department at Radio DDR. Today, the MDR studio in Bautzen produces programmes with news, magazines and cultural contributions. The programmes cover current affairs, music and Sorbian traditions.

The programme is part of public broadcasting and is aimed at the Lusatian Sorbs. It is broadcast daily and complements the television offering, such as the magazine Wuhladko since 2001.
