MDR SPUTNIK

As a youth offering of the Central German Broadcasting (Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk), MDR SPUTNIK targets a predominantly younger audience in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia. The station focuses musically on current chart hits, modern pop productions, and electronic dance music, while emphasizing a direct approach to its listeners. The programming includes, in addition to regular rotation, regularly specialized formats that focus on new trends, newcomer scenes, and specific music genres such as hip-hop or techno. This sets the station’s sonic profile clearly apart from the conventional channels of the public broadcaster.

Broadcasting takes place primarily via the digital DAB+ network and through a live stream, which underscores the station’s media reach in urban centers such as Leipzig, Halle, and Magdeburg. MDR SPUTNIK positions itself as a multimedia platform that goes beyond classic audio transmission and closely links its content with social media and interactive digital channels. Through this hybrid approach, the station seeks to occupy the interface between curated music editorial content and user-generated content, without forgoing a classic, journalistically driven information service for its target audience.
