Klassik Radio – Opera
About the station
Klassik Radio – Opera is a digital web radio offering from the station Klassik Radio, specializing exclusively in opera music. It offers a continuous selection of arias, overtures, and complete opera works by great composers such as Puccini, Verdi, and Mozart.
Klassik Radio itself was founded in 1986 by Ulrich R. J. Kubak as Radio Fantasy, with its broadcast launch on 21 March 1987 in Augsburg. In 1999, Kubak took over the majority stake and established Klassik Radio as a leading provider of classical music in Germany. The programming includes, in addition to opera, film music and concert recordings, complemented by the in-house Klassik Radio Pops Orchester since 2007. Following the exit from FM broadcasting as of 1 January 2026, the focus is on digital platforms such as the app and streaming. The broadcast center has been located since 2021 in the renovated Augsburg City Archives.
