Hit Radio FFH
About the station
Hit Radio FFH: The sound of Hesse for over 35 years. As the most-listened radio station in Hesse, the station offers a mix of current chart hits, regional news, and entertaining shows that connect listeners from Frankfurt to Kassel.
Station History
Hit Radio FFH launched on November 15, 1989, at 4:55 a.m. in Frankfurt-Rödelheim as the first private radio station in Hesse. Founded by 50 partners, including 36 Hessian newspaper publishers, the launch following deregulation by Prime Minister Walter Wallmann marked a new era in Hessian radio. The first broadcast, “Guten Morgen Hessen!” with news by Uwe Hackbarth and the title song “Flying through the Air” by Oliver Onions, immediately attracted listeners; FFH quickly became the market leader ahead of hr3.
Since 2001, the station has broadcast from its modern broadcasting house in Bad Vilbel, where around 55 employees worked at the start. Milestones include the name change in 1995 to “Hit Radio FFH” with the slogan “Simply closer,” the launch of digital satellite operations in 1995 and the internet stream in 1996, as well as helicopter traffic reports from 1992. Today, FFH is the second-largest private station in Germany by listener numbers after Antenne Bayern and reaches Hesse via FM, DAB+, cable, and app.
Programme Overview
The Hit Radio FFH programme revolves around chart hits, comedy, news, and traffic information, tailored to everyday life in Hesse. Each day, current Top 40 songs are mixed with favourite songs from older generations, complemented by regional reports from Hesse, Germany, and the world. Regional studios in Kassel, Gießen, Fulda, Darmstadt, and Rhein-Main provide local content via DAB+ and web radio.
On weekdays, the day begins with the “FFH-Morning Show” from 5 to 9 a.m., followed by morning and midday shows. In the afternoon and evening, presenters rotate through interactive formats such as “FFH Leider Geil.” Weekends feature chart shows and relaxed formats like “Wallis Wunderbares Wochenende.” Special events such as “Radio on Tour,” festivals (e.g., Grüne Soße Festival), and web radios (Party-Hits, Just Kids) expand the offering.

Despite competition, FFH remains a pioneer: from trailblazer to digital multi-channel provider. For Hesse, FFH is more than radio – it is the soundtrack of everyday life.
