1LIVE

The youth programme of the Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR), launched in April 1995, broadcasts from Cologne for the entire state of North Rhine-Westphalia, which is referred to internally as Sektor. Musically, the format focuses on a mix of current chart hits, pop, hip-hop, and electronic dance music. In addition to the main station, the editorial team operates digital offshoots such as 1LIVE diGGi as well as the programme 1LIVE Plan B, which focuses more on alternative music beyond the mainstream.

A key feature of the station is the high proportion of in-house comedy productions, including formats such as the O-Ton-Charts. Among the prominent segments is the Fragenhagel, in which musicians and personalities such as Finch or Campino complete short answer sequences. Each year, the station awards the 1LIVE Krone, one of the largest public awards in the German music scene. Through FM frequencies, such as 102.4 MHz in Bonn or 106.7 MHz in the Ruhr area, the programme reaches a million-strong audience daily and supplements this with podcasts and video formats such as 99 Problems with Felix Lobrecht.
