ORF OE1
About the station
As the first radio program of the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation, Ö1 has shaped the country’s public-service media landscape since 1967. Broadcasting from its main studio in Vienna, the culture and information radio station airs a speech-heavy full program with a strong focus on news, science, economics, radio drama, and demanding music ranging from classical to contemporary jazz. Among its signature information formats are long-running programs such as Mittagsjournal, Abendjournal, and Journal zu Gast.
Broadcasting is carried out nationwide via terrestrial FM frequencies and nationwide via DAB+. In addition to linear broadcasting, the program is digitally networked. Through the audio service ORF Sound, all ORF public-service stations can be streamed live. Moreover, Ö1’s spoken-word and music content is available there on demand for a period of thirty days, making the journalistic archive accessible independent of time.
